EIN (Employer Identification Number)

An EIN, or Employer Identification Number, is a federal identifier issued to a business by the IRS, essentially a tax ID for the business itself. Businesses use it to file taxes, open business bank accounts, and identify themselves on financial paperwork. Having an EIN is part of how a business establishes an identity separate from its owner. It is a structural detail lenders may reference, distinct from an owner’s personal identifiers.
